Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 12, 2026 · Last updated: July 11, 2026 · See also the Terms of Use.

1. Introduction

Peaceful Pairs provides a communication and relationship-wellness application in which an AI facilitator, Pace, helps two people work through a topic together, or helps one person reflect on their own. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Peaceful Pairs collects, how that information is used and shared, how long it is kept, and the rights and choices available to you.

This policy covers the Peaceful Pairs app, the website at peacefulpairs.com, and the backend service that powers them. Peaceful Pairs is the controller of your personal information. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, contact [email protected].

2. Summary of key points

  • Peaceful Pairs does not sell your conversations or personal information, and the app contains no advertising or trackers of any kind. (The public marketing site uses privacy-respecting, opt-in analytics; see Section 7.)
  • To generate replies, every message you send is transmitted to third-party AI providers on paid API tiers, under which none uses your conversations to train its models.
  • Other users see only the conversations they took part in, and your solo reflections are never shown to anyone else.
  • Conversations are automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity. You can delete your account at any time and can request a copy of your data by email. Messages you already sent into a shared conversation remain in the other person's copy.
  • Peaceful Pairs is intended for adults 18 and older, and it is not therapy, medical care, or an emergency service (Section 13).

3. Information collected

Account information

  • Email address and name. Your email address, your first and last name (your first name is shown to the other participant), and a securely hashed password. Accounts created with Google or Apple sign-in have no password; Peaceful Pairs receives your email address and name from that provider and stores the identifier it supplies in order to recognize you on future sign-ins.

Conversation content

  • Your conversations. The messages you send, the topic and relationship type, any private goal you set (never shown to the other person), and AI-generated summaries, titles, and agreements.

Safety and support information

  • Safety check. A short yes/no safety check before a session. Only a flag indicating a possible concern is kept, not your answers.
  • Reports. Any reports you submit about an AI message, including your optional note.

Payment information

  • Subscriptions. Payments are handled by a third-party payment processor, which collects your payment details directly; Peaceful Pairs never receives or stores your full card number. Your subscription status and a customer reference from the payment processor are stored with your account.

School and organization plans

  • School email verification. If your school or organization provides Peaceful Pairs, your school email address is verified with a one-time code and stored with your account. If your school is not yet set up, your request to add it (your account and the school's domain) is recorded.

Technical information

  • IP address. Used briefly, in memory, only to limit abuse. It is never written to the database or linked to your account.
  • Local storage. The app uses only the strictly necessary storage needed to keep you signed in. It sets no analytics or advertising cookies.

4. How information is used

  • To provide the service: create and authenticate your account, connect you with the other participant, deliver and store your conversations, and generate Pace's replies, summaries, titles, and proposed agreements.
  • To run the safety check: automatically screen messages for signs of crisis, abuse, or coercion, and surface crisis resources.
  • To manage billing: process subscriptions and school or organization plans.
  • To secure the service: verify access, apply rate limiting, and prevent abuse.
  • To provide support: respond to your reports and requests.
  • To comply with law: meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests where required.

Your information is never used for advertising, and your conversations are never used to train any Peaceful Pairs AI model.

5. How your messages are processed by AI providers

To generate Pace's replies and run the automated safety check, your messages are shared with a small number of established third-party AI providers, each processing data solely on behalf of Peaceful Pairs under its data-processing terms. Peaceful Pairs uses each provider's paid API tier, under which none uses your conversations to train or improve its models. Content may be processed transiently to detect abuse: a provider may retain content for a limited period to monitor for abuse and misuse, then deletes it, and material specifically flagged for safety can be subject to limited human review. Each provider's API terms apply.

No content is sent to any AI service that trains on content by default. A current list of AI providers is available on request at [email protected].

6. How information is shared

Peaceful Pairs does not sell or rent your personal information and never shares it for advertising. Information is shared only with the service providers needed to operate the service, each limited to that purpose:

  • AI providers - generate Pace's replies and run the automated safety check, as described in Section 5.
  • Database and application hosting providers - store your account and conversations and run the backend service. Your data is protected by row-level security that prevents any public API from reading it.
  • An email delivery provider - sends account emails such as verification and password-reset codes, and receives your email address and first name for that purpose.
  • A payment processor - handles subscription payments.

Each provider is bound to use your information only to provide its service to Peaceful Pairs. A current list of service providers is available on request at [email protected].

Information may also be disclosed where Peaceful Pairs believes in good faith that disclosure is legally required, or necessary to protect someone's safety (see Section 16). If Peaceful Pairs is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; you will be notified as required by law.

7. Cookies and analytics

The Peaceful Pairs app, where your conversations happen, contains no analytics, no advertising, and no trackers of any kind. The public marketing website (peacefulpairs.com) uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are helpful, configured for privacy: Google's advertising features and cross-site signals are turned off, so it is not used for ad targeting or cross-site profiles. Analytics load only if you choose "Allow" on the cookie banner; if you decline or ignore it, nothing is sent to Google and no analytics cookie is set. Google processes this data under its own terms, and it is never connected to your account or your conversations.

8. Sensitive information and your consent

Conversations on Peaceful Pairs can reveal sensitive details about your relationships, sex life, health, or state of mind. Before the first conversation, every participant (including anyone you invite) is asked to confirm they are 18 or older, to acknowledge that their messages are sent to third-party AI providers to generate replies and may include sensitive information, and to agree to the Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy. That confirmation is your explicit consent to process this information solely to provide the service. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account.

9. Data retention

  • Conversations are automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity.
  • Account data is kept for as long as your account is open.
  • When you delete your account, the account and your private data, including solo reflections and saved summaries, are permanently removed. Messages already delivered into another participant's copy remain with them.
  • Reports you submit about an AI message are kept for up to 180 days to tune the safety systems, then deleted.
  • Billing records are retained as long as required for accounting and tax purposes.
  • Your IP address is held only in memory for rate limiting and is never stored.

10. Security

Your information is protected with encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS), hashed passwords, strict database access controls, and row-level security that blocks any public API from reading your data. Conversation content is currently stored without additional field-level encryption at rest; the system supports enabling at-rest encryption of stored conversation content. No service can guarantee perfect security, so Peaceful Pairs minimizes what it collects and keeps only what it needs.

11. Your rights and choices

  • Access and portability: request a copy of your data at any time by emailing [email protected].
  • Deletion: delete your account from Settings in the app, or on the web at peacefulpairs.com/delete-account. This permanently removes your account and private data. There is no per-message deletion, and account deletion does not remove messages already delivered into another participant's copy.
  • Correction: request correction or removal of inaccurate information, including AI-generated summaries or agreements about you.
  • Objection, restriction, and withdrawal of consent: you can object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent by deleting your account.
  • EEA/UK residents may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority. California residents may use an authorized agent and will not be treated differently for exercising their rights.

Requests may be sent to [email protected]; they are verified using the email address on file and answered within 30 days.

12. International data transfers

The service providers described above are based primarily in the United States, so using Peaceful Pairs from outside the U.S. (including the EEA and UK) involves transferring your information to the U.S. Where required, appropriate safeguards are put in place for these transfers.

13. Important notices: not therapy, not legally confidential

Peaceful Pairs is a communication and relationship-wellness tool. It is not therapy, counseling, or medical care, and conversations are not legally privileged or HIPAA-protected. Do not rely on it as a substitute for professional help. If you are in crisis, contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) or your local emergency number. If you are dealing with an abusive situation, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1‑800‑799‑7233.

14. AI-generated content

Pace, the AI facilitator, writes replies, summaries, titles, and suggested agreements based on your conversation, and runs an automated safety check. These outputs can be wrong or incomplete, are not used to make any legally significant decision about you automatically, and you can request that they be corrected or removed.

15. Children

Peaceful Pairs is intended for adults 18 and older. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; any such information will be deleted upon discovery.

Information may be disclosed where Peaceful Pairs believes in good faith that disclosure is legally required (for example, by a valid subpoena or court order) or necessary to protect someone's safety. Because conversation content is stored without field-level encryption, it could be produced in response to a valid legal request. Where permitted, you will be told first.

17. Changes to this policy

If a material change is made to this policy, the date above will be updated and you will be notified (by email or an in-app notice) before it takes effect. Continuing to use Peaceful Pairs after a change means you accept the updated policy.

18. Terms of Use

Use of Peaceful Pairs is also governed by the Terms of Use.
